FORAC is a federation of the optometric regulatory and licensing bodies in Canada dedicated to facilitating discussion, exchanging information, providing a national voice and communicating with others about legislation, registration, standards of practice, continuing competence and any other issues related to the health care system including the profession of optometry.

International Graduates

If you are an internationally educated optometrist or eye care professional seeking registration to practice optometry in any Canadian Province or Territory (except) Quebec, you must have your credentials assessed by FORAC. To read some answers to frequently asked questions, click here

Beginning January 1, 2021, the credential assessment process is being updated to better reflect the current Canadian Optometry curriculum and Canadian Optometry scope of practice. This may affect applicants who attend institutions that reside in jurisdictions in which Optometrists are not able to independently prescribe drugs without additional graduate education. If you are currently completing a program outside of Canada and the United States and plan on applying to FORAC in the future, please make sure to look into additional education/training in ocular health and therapeutics in your institution’s jurisdiction.

For registration in the Province of Quebec, please visit the website of the Ordre des Optométristes du Québec at: www.ooq.org.

Pour de l’information concernant l’inscription dans la province du Québec, veuillez visiter le site internet de l’Ordre des optométristes du Québec au www.ooq.org.
